Dana White is the President of the UFC and is known to make some outrageous decisions during his time in the company, among other things.
While speaking to ESPN, Dana White revealed that at one time he lost $1 million after making a bet on a boxing match. White added that it was the first time he ever bet that kind of money as White was very confident about his chances.
“It was the first time I ever bet $1 million dollars because I was so confident…,”
White bet on a very popular boxing champion who was defending his title back in 2007. To White’s dismay, the champion lost the match and the title via seventh-round knockout, which led to White losing his $1 million.
White said that he made the bet on Jermain Taylor to win against Kelly Pavlik. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned for White.
“Oh my god. What was the kid’s name? Jermain Taylor. And who did he fight? I know this for the ass-whooping I took. He fought the tall, lanky, white kid from Ohio, Kelly Pavlik. I bet $1 million on Taylor and he got destroyed. It was the first time I ever bet $1 million dollars because I was so confident Taylor was going to win that fight,”
It is to be noted that it might not be the only time White bet such an exorbitant amount of money on a fight, as he said it was only his ‘first time.’
