Hollywood megastar Eddie Murphy had humble beginnings. Before making a name for himself as an actor, Murphy worked as a stand-up comedian in the 70s and 80s. He truly gained attention after making an appearance on Saturday Night Live.
However, he hasn’t done stand-up comedy in decades since then. While speaking on Kevin Hart’s SiriusXM podcast Comedy Gold Minds with Kevin Hart, Murphy was jokingly told by Hart about returning to stand-up comedy.
“Every time we talk, he leaves me with a piece of information, and I feel like I got gold.”
Eddie Murphy then revealed that he planned on making up new material for a possible stand-up comedy special after the release of Dolemite and Coming 2 America.
“My plan was to do Dolemite, Saturday Night Live, Coming 2 America and then do stand-up. And then the pandemic hit, and it shut the whole shit down,” he explained. “Then I was going – the whole time last year I would have been out working on my act trying to get my shit right, and then the whole thing shut down.”
Murph ended it by saying that once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides, he plans on doing stand-up comedy again.
“Hey, when the pandemic is over and it’s safe for everybody to go out and do it, then the plan is to do it.”
Coming 2 America just dropped on Amazon Prime as it made its release a day earlier in the USA than initially planned. We will have to see if Murphy truly will return to doing stand-up comedy.
