In one of the most anticipated fights of UFC 259, Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan defended his title against Aljamain Sterling in the third last match of the event at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas Saturday night.
Unfortunately, the match didn’t quite go as expected and ended in controversial fashion. Yan hit Sterling with an illegal knee during the 4th round of the match.
Immediately after this, there were discussions whether the match would be continued or not. Ultimately, the match was called off and Sterling won the title via DQ.
However, Sterling was visibly upset at the result as he clearly didn’t want to become the Champion this way.
It is not known why Yan decided to hit him with an illegal knee and ruin the match.
