Matthew McConaughey Considering Running For Texas Governor

Matthew McConaughey is one of the most decorated actors in all of Hollywood, having won several awards throughout his career. Now it seems McConaughey might have political aspirations as well.

While speaking to Crime Stoppers of Houston’s The Balanced Voice podcast, the actor was asked about possibly running to become the next Governor of Texas.

McConaughey revealed that he is considering going into politics.

“It’s a true consideration.”

Back in November 2020 while promoting his book Greenlights on the Late Show, McConaughey noted that he had no plans of running for Governor at that time.

“I have no plans to do that right now. As I said, that would be up to a lot of other people. Look, right now, no, I don’t get politics… Politics seems to be a broken business. Politics needs to redefine its purpose. As I move forward in life, yes, am I gonna consider leadership roles where I can be most useful? I’d love to. I’m doing that, regardless. That’s where I sit right now.”

The next election for the Texas governor position will be taking place in November 2022. The current Governor of Texas is Greg Abbott. We will have to see whether McConaughey decides to run for Governor eventually.
