The family of George Floyd is getting a huge settlement from the city of Minneapolis.
On Friday, Minneapolis agreed to pay the family of George Floyd $27 million in a civil lawsuit.
Associated Press reports that the settlement includes $500,000 for the neighborhood where Floyd’s fatal arrest took place. This was announced by the family’s attorney Ben Crump, who has also represented the family of Breonna Taylor.
Crump said that this settlement “sends a powerful message that Black lives do matter and police brutality against people of color must end.”
George Floyd was killed on May 25th, 2020 after Derek Chauvin, who is currently on trial for the murder, held his knee on the back of Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes, resulting in his death.
