Patrick Ewing is one of the most legendary basketball players to have ever walked the earth. His trajectory as a player in the New York Knicks is every bit as legendary as the legends we have playing in our era. While the team won no championship when he was playing, he took them to an NBA finals.
It might seem like a big deal for a basketball team to just make it to the finals and not win anything, but remember that we’re talking about the New York Knicks here. It definitely is a big deal for them, and Patrick has contributed to it the most.
These days, he is coaching the Georgetown men’s basketball team who had a match at the Madison Square Garden. Things turned sour when Ewing was stopped by security at every turn he took in MSG. He felt disrespected and said in a statement:
I thought this was my building and I feel terrible that I’m getting stopped, asked for passes,” Ewing said. “Everybody in this building should know who the hell I am.
When you’re a basketball legend, you’d think that everyone would know you. But then again, the security personnel don’t necessarily have to be acquainted with basketball, and lucky for the guards, Ewing’s team won. They wouldn’t have to worry about hellfire reigning upon them any time soon.
