UFC President Dana White recently announced that Khabib Nurmagomedov has officially retired from UFC. This came after months of speculation of whether he would come back or not.
After the announcement of his retirement, it was announced that Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler will fight at UFC 262 in order to determine the new UFC Lightweight Champion. Oliveira is ranked No. 3 in the division, and Chandler is ranked No. 4.
This selection might come off as very odd for many fans as No. 1 ranked Dustin Poirier was not selected to be in the title fight. This is despite the fact that he defeated Conor McGregor at UFC 257 in January.
At this moment it is not known why UFC decided to not give Poirier the opportunity to fight for the title. It is also likely he will be having a third match with Conor McGregor this year, so he has something to prepare for.
