Khabib Nurmagomedov will always be regarded as one of the best UFC fighters to have competed in the MMA world. Khabib ended his career after his match against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in 2020.
Since then there had been a lot of speculation regarding him returning to the UFC as he was still undefeated, with many believing he would come back to make his record an impressive 30-0. However, Dana White recently confirmed that the Russian fighter has retired for good.
Khabib took to Instagram and wrote a touching message, thanking everyone for all the years of hard work and good times he had.
“It was a good dinner with some great people. @danawhite thank you so much brother and the entire @ufc team for the opportunity to prove myself, you guys have changed many live forever because of this sport 👊
Dana – I’ll never forget your attitude towards me, my father did not forget and my sons will remember you.
Today there was a real conversation between real men.
Also thank you to all team, sparing partners and all fans.
I hope you will accept my decision and understand me.”
Now that Khabib has retired, he has officially vacated the UFC lightweight belt which the fighter held for the past three years. Charles ‘do Bronx’ Oliveira and former Bellator champion Michael Chandler will compete in the main event of UFC 262 on May 15, 2021. to determine the new champion.
