A tragedy occurred in the life of rapper Nicki Minaj when her father, Robert Maraj became victim to a hit-and-run accident. While walking at the point where Roslyn Rd. & Raff Ave. (Mineola, New York) converged, a white van being driven by a 70-year-old man hit him and took his life.
The driver, Charles Polevich, initially fled the scene and tried to remain in hiding for a few days, but eventually turned himself over to the Long Island police. Robert’s wife took a month to process the incident and finally filed a lawsuit against Charles Polevich.
Civil Rights lawyer Ben Crump and Attorney Paul Napoli have filed the lawsuit against Charles Polevich, as per a report by TMZ. Ben Crump took to Twitter t0 announce the lawsuit as well as state the grounds on which it is based.
Charles Polevich was not only irresponsible & negligent in hitting Maraj, but was more concerned about running away and hiding than seeking help.
The police officers from the Long Island police who took Polevich into custody said that:
He (Charles) exited his vehicle stood over the victim asked him if ‘he was ok,’ walked and returned to his vehicle and fled the scene. He then drove home while avoiding intersections and did conceal his vehicle in the detached garage at his residence.
After his arrest, Charles was charged with two felonies, namely leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with or suppressing physical evidence. After pleading not guilty to the charges, he was issued bail on a $250,000 bond. He is ordered to submit his passport so that he cannot flee the state of New York.
