Khabib Nurmagomedov will always be regarded as one of the best UFC fighters to have competed in the MMA world. Khabib ended his career after his match against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in 2020.
After months of speculation as to whether he would make a return to the Octagon, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Khabib has retired. Khabib also made history in the world of MMA after his retirement.
Now it seems former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones decided to mock the Russian fighter after his retirement. Jones took to Instagram and uploaded a meme of a figure representing Nurmagomedov celebrating his four UFC title wins by drinking champagne on a podium.
However, the meme was actually a joke in nature as he is seen celebrating in a podium that is far lower than multiple UFC champions who have won more UFC title fights.
“Nothing wrong with going out on top, enjoy retirement kid.”
Jon Jones would delete the post shortly afterwards. It seems Jones didn’t like the fact that Khabib surpassed him to become the No. 1 ranked fighter in the male pound-for-pound rankings. We wonder whether Jones will now be elevated to No. 1 after Khabib’s retirement.
