UFC legend Conor McGregor is always one step ahead of everyone when it comes to playing the villain. This time, Conor has probably tempted the wrong fighter, which he might end up regretting in the future.
The UFC Vegas 22 event which happened at the UFC Apex, Las Vegas, lightweight champion and Russian Sambo tactician Khabib Nurmagomedov was present alongside UFC president Dana White as a spectator.
Khabib was shown several times in the broadcast reacting to the main event which was a bout between Derek Brunson and Kevin Holland. Immediately after the fight ended, Conor took to Twitter to fire some shots at the fighter who has lost only two rounds in his entire career.
While Nurmagomedov still carries the title of the Lightweight Champion, he retired in October after having a terrific bout against Justin Gaethje. Dana White spent subsequent months to the bout trying to persuade Khabib to come back, but he wouldn’t budge.
Khabib and Conor have faced each other in a legendary battle that was concluded with Conor going down in the 4th round via submission to The Eagle. A post-fight brawl also ensued between Khabib & Conor’s supporters, turning the entire event into one of the most controversial and fantastic UFC main events to have ever happened.
If Conor had defeated Dustin Pourier in their January bouts, UFC would have done everything in its power to bring back Khabib from retirement and made the most sensational rematch in the entire history of the UFC. However, it seems that McGregor is trying to make it happen by tempting Nurmagomedov into coming back, and who knows if it just might work.
