Game Of Thrones was a pop culture phenomenon that took the world by storm since its first episode back in 2011. However, the 8th and final season of the show effectively killed its hype and removed it from pop culture in general. It was so negatively received that even an actor who acted in the show hasn’t watched it yet.
While speaking to Express, Game Of Thrones star Michael McElhatton, who played the role of Roose Bolton, revealed that the backlash received by the final season put him off so much that he still hasn’t seen it yet.
“I didn’t (watch it), you know, I have not seen the final season. I always watched them a little bit later, I absolutely loved them, but I wasn’t kind of chomping at the bit to see (the final episodes). And then I guess – I will watch them one day, but it got such negative press, didn’t it? I mean, I just, I was really disappointed. And it’s such a shame. But I will watch it someday. But I haven’t, I’ve seen up to the end of season seven.”
McElhatton added that the show became a victim of its own monumental sucess.
“How can you be that big and that original and that new for eight seasons? Eventually something’s got to give. And in a way, maybe it might have been better to finish at seven seasons.”
While the first few seasons are still considered as one of the best that television has to offer, it is unlikely the show will ever be back to the mainstream pop culture again after the disastrous season 8.
