The Rocky films starring Sylvester Stallone remains an iconic series for fans and is still regarded as one of the best underdog stories ever told. The spinoff to the series, called Creed, already has two films under its belt and has done fairly well for itself as well.
It stars Michael B. Jordan as Apollo Creed’s son Adonis. However, Stallone’s character will not be returning in the third Creed film. Now it seems more details regarding the absence of Stallone has been revealed.
While speaking to IGN, Creed star and director Michael B. Jordan explained why Sylvester Stallone won’t be coming back in Creed III. Jordan stated that the franchise is about Creed and they “really want to build this story and this world around [Adonis] moving forward.”
“Yeah, I think that Sly let it be known that he wasn’t coming back for this one but I think, you know, his essence and his spirit… there’s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis,” Jordan said. “But this is a Creed franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around him moving forward. So, it’s always respect and always a shit-ton of love for what he’s built, but we really want to push and navigate Adonis forward and the family that he created. So, hopefully, you guys will love what I’m thinking… what we’re cooking up. I think it’s going to be something special.”
Stallone played Rocky in eight movies, directed four of them, and served as a writer or co-writer on all the Rocky movies and Creed II. Creed III is slated to release on 23 November 2022. We will fare and whether it will live up to the expectations.
