The 2017 film The Hitman’s Bodyguard was met with lukewarm responses from fans and critics alike as it received a disappointing 43 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a $176.6 million worldwide collection in the Box Office. Despite that, it still prompted the production of a sequel and it might far surpass the original.
The sequel, titled Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, will see Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson reprise their roles as the bodyguard and hitman respectively. This time around, there’s a new addition to the team as Salma Hayek will be starring in the film as Jackson’s “international con artist” wife.
Now a trailer for the upcoming sequel has dropped and shows all three stars doing their respective roles justice. Here is the summary of the plot for the upcoming sequel.
The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) – are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas). Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem is Morgan Freeman as… well, you’ll have to see.
Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard also has a very star-studded lineup as it also features Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo, Caroline Goodall, Rebecca Front and many others. The film is slated to release on June 16 and we will have to see how it will turn out to be.
