Chris Columbus’ 1990 film Home Alone remains a classic film for Christmas. It starred Macaulay Culkin and eventually became a full-fledged franchise of films.
Back in 2019, Disney+ first announced a reboot of the first film, where it was stated that the story will focus on a new child named Max, who will be played by Archie Yates. It will also feature Saturday Night Live stars Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell, and Mikey Day
The new Home Alone movie will be directed by Dan Mazer and he certainly has a lot of expectations to live up to, as the original film is arguably one of the most beloved films of all time. Producing for the upcoming reboot film was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, it was announced by Disney in November of last year that production for the film had resumed. While speaking to Bravo‘s Watch What Happens Live clubhouse, Thompson answered a fan question regarding the status of the reboot movie. He stated that despite the delays, the film will definitely come out.
“It was a long shoot. It started in Canada and got shut down and then came back around because of the pandemic. It’s been very splotchy as far as trying to get it done is concerned. I think they’re getting very close to finishing it. I did ADR for it recently, so that’s usually one of the last steps. So, it’s coming out.”
We will have to see when the upcoming reboot film will come out and whether it will capture the magic of the original film, which made it such a hit with families all over the world.
