The writers for the movie Predator, Jim and John Thomas, have sued Disney for the ownership rights of the franchise. While Disney recently acquired 20th Century Fox, and with it the franchise as well, the writers are using the opportunity to take back control.
While the authors of a franchise are usually supposed to wait for a long time to get the opportunity for acquisition of rights (in Predator’s case, it’s a long wait of 35 years), they capitalized on their chance at the right time when Disney’s 21st Century Fox is looking to roll out a Predator reboot soon.
The first movie of the franchise, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger came out in 1987. The movie has come to have a strong following throughout the years. After the 1990 sequel, the movie franchise took a long hiatus, which ended with a crossover event of Alien Vs. Predator.
The third and fourth installments of the series came in much later, with Predators releasing in 2010 & The Predator being the most recent with a 2018 release. Disney has filed a countersuit in order to get rid of this legal problem which is directly hampering their process of putting out a new Predator movie.
