Hocus Pocus was one of the most iconic movie of the 90s. Disney+ is reportedly releasing a sequel that will have Anne Fletcher at its helm replacing Adam Shankman.

Previously, Adam Shankman was onboarded to direct the highly anticipated sequel for Disney+, with a screenplay written by Jen D’Angelo. A new report from The DisInsider has now revealed that Shankman has been replaced on the project by choreographer and filmmaker Anne Fletcher of Step Up and The Guilt Trip fame.

The most likely reason behind this change might be Shankman spearheading the upcoming Enchanted sequel Disenchanted as rumors say Hocus Pocus 2 will also start shooting this Summer/Fall. Ironically, Fletcher was originally going to direct Disenchanted before the film was shelved until recently.

Hocus Pocus 2 will bring back Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles as the three Sanderson sisters. We do not know the complete details about the plot and it’s unclear if any other original stars from the first movie will also be back. Billy Butcherson actor Doug Jones has previously expressed his interest in returning for Hocus Pocus 2, as has Thora Birch, who played Dani Dennison.
