Friends remains one of the most beloved and influential sitcoms in the history of the genre. The colorful cast of characters featuring Ross, Rachael, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey captured the hearts and minds of an entire generation of viewers. The show also included its iconic opening song, which featured all characters dancing in a fountain. While it seems as if they were having a lot of fun, it seems the reality was different.
Courtney Cox was a guest on the latest episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and in the preview, Cox was asked regarding her memories of the cast dancing in the fountain, as seen in the opening song. When Cox was asked whose idea it was to have the cast jump and dance in the pool, she revealed that they had to be in the fountain for several hours.
“Well, it definitely wasn’t mine. We were in that fountain for a long time. Somebody thought that would just be really fun, and let me tell you what happens—it’s not fun to be dancing in a fountain for hours and hours.”
I remember Matthew Perry saying at one point, and we didn’t know each other that well at that point. But I remember, and this is so Matthew, but he was like, ‘Can’t remember a time that I wasn’t in this fountain.'”
Literally, we were just like, ‘How much longer are we going to pretend to love dancing in water?’ But it was fun—but not really
Cox also hinted at the upcoming Friends reunion special that is expected to debut later this year.
“It was unbelievable—it was so emotional. A lot of special surprises.”
The match-awaited Friends reunion is set to air on HBO Max. We will have to see how good the reunion will turn out to be as fans are surely looking for that one big hit of nostalgia.
