Conor McGregor is undoubtedly one of the most popular MMA fighters in the history of the sport and is a huge draw for the UFC, garnering insane pay-per-view buys for every UFC event he headlines. On top of that he is a very smart businessman who knows how to spend his money wisely.
Now it seems the Notorious One has a reason to celebrate as it was revealed by Forbes Magazine that Conor McGregor has topped their list of the top-10 highest-paid athletes in 2021.
McGregor has earned a total of $180 million over the last 12 months; most of which comes from the recent sale of his majority stake in whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve to Proximo Spirits for $150 million. McGregor made a total of $158 million outside of his fighting career, including his endorsement portfolio featuring DraftKings and Roots of Fight.
This marks the first time McGregor has topped the list and also his second appearance, as he was ranked #4 with $99 million in 2018’s list after his fight against Floyd Mayweather.
While this is certainly a cause for celebration, McGregor still has to focus for his upcoming fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 on July 11th in their third fight together. Both of them currently have a win over the other, so we will have to see who will become the definite winner in the high profile rivalry. Should McGregor lose, it is likely he will lose all of his credibility and no amount of money will fix that.
