James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has been boasting many big names in its cast, such as the WWE Superstar John Cena, comedian and SNL writer Pete Davidson and British actor Idris Alba. While the movie is successful in creating the hype, it still struggles to overcome the failure suffered by its predecessor, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
While the former was a box-office hit while being critically panned by most of its viewers, The Suicide Squad is fairly successful in coming off as a good movie in anticipation. The fact that it will be coming out as an R rated movie probably helps its case ever more.
The website, FilmRatings.com, which is the official online platform for CARA/MPA revealed a few movies which will be coming out soon while bearing an R rating, and The Suicide Squad is one of them. According to the website, it will be rated R because of its “strong violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual references, drug use and brief graphic nudity.”
When James Gunn had gotten inexplicably fired by Disney while he was working on Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, he landed a deal with Warner Bros. to carry on with a DCEU project. The director chose Suicide Squad, and decided that it isn’t going to be a sequel to Ayer’s Suicide Squad. However, it will have characters from the former film while having a combination of rather obscure DC villains and a completely fresh start.
The R rating for the movie also comes at a time where the superhero movies that are aimed for a mature audience have been both box office blockbusters as well as liked by critics as well. Deadpool, Logan & DC’s very own Joker are some of the movies which have done incredibly well with an R rating.
