Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot started her journey in Hollywood in 2009’s Fast & Furious as Gisele Yashar. She has reprised this role several times in future films in the franchise. She would truly become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood after her portrayal of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the DCEU movies.
The Israel-born actress is also known to speak out on issues involving her home country. During the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict, Gadot posted a photo on Facebook in support of the Israel Defense Forces and she received a mixed response as a result.
The situation between Israel and Palestine has further escalated since then as the recent evictions of Palestinians in East Jerusalem led to a lot of violence in the region after Hamas fired over 1,000 rockets into Jerusalem this week. Due to this, Israel retaliated with multiple airstrikes on Palestine’s Gaza Strip. Several lives were lost due to this.
Gal Gadot took to Twitter and commented on the situation, posting a message about unity and peace between the two nations amid the violence that erupted in the region again. However, her tweet led to a lot of backlash. It came to such a point that Gadot turned off comments on that post.
Many people found offence in the fact that she called Palestine ‘neighbors’ and not refence it by name. Critics and Palestinian supporters accused the actress of using her position as a ‘propaganda’ for Israel and their attempts at ‘ethnic cleansing’. It is likely Gadot will remain involved at the center of an Israel-related controversy as she is the face of the Wonder Woman franchise.
