Nicki Minaj is undoubtedly one of the most popular female rappers in the Hip-Hop world. Unfortunately for Minaj, she suffered a personal tragedy earlier in the year when her father, Robert Maraj, lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident.
As a result of his sudden demise, her mother Carol Maraj filed a $150 million lawsuit against the man responsible for taking the life of Minaj’s father. Now Nicki Minaj has finally opened up about the tragic passing of her father.
Minaj took to her website on Friday and opened up about the hit-and-run accident. Nicki Minaj called the sudden death of her father ”devastating,” and added that she is far too heartbroken to talk about it.
“Tho I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed.”
Robert Maraj was walking in Mineola, NY, on Feb. 12 when he was hit by a white 1992 Volvo station wagon. The accused driver, Charles Polevich, exited his vehicle, asked Maraj if he was fine and then fled the scene without calling 911 as alleged by prosecutors.
Maraj was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries the day after. Polevich’s attorney had stated earlier that his client has a “tremendous amount of empathy for the family [and] the loss that they’ve suffered. We would like offer our condolences to Nicki Minaj and her mother during this difficult time.
