Jon Jones is one of the most popular fighters in the history of the UFC. For the past couple of months, Jones had been gunning for Francis Ngannou’s UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Jones previously revealed that he felt undervalued and simply wanted to be paid better. Unfortunately for Jones, it was previously stated that he will not be facing Ngannou anytime soon as Ngannou will be facing Derrick Lewis this Summer.
With Jones being out of the title picture, many fans wonder what is next in store for Jones. While speaking on the UFC 262 post-fight press conference, Dana White talked about Jon Jones’ future in the promotion.
White stated that he cannot force Jones to fight in the promotion and the decision to fight ultimately rests on him. White then proceeded to call Jones the Greatest Of All Time in the UFC.
“Listen, that’s up to Jon Jones. Whether he wants to fight or not. You know, there’s fights available, they’re here. I’m gonna keep making fights every weekend, doing fights. You know, if Jon Jones has to fight he can, if he doesn’t, he doesn’t have to. Nobody is gonna force Jon Jones to fight. He’s got a great run, he’s got an incredible legacy. I personally see him as the GOAT.”
White added that if Jon Jones wins the title in the heavyweight division then it would be tough to argue if he is the GOAT or not. However, if Jones decides to retire right now, then he would still be considered the GOAT.
“Obviously, going up to heavyweight it would be tough to argue, you know, if he wins the title, that he’s not the GOAT. But, right here, right now, he could retire and I still consider him the GOAT right now, until somebody else accomplishes what he has.”
Jon Jones had previously turned down the possibility of fighting Stipe Miocic and presently it is not known what is next in store for Jon Jones. His fans certainly hope Jon Jones doesn’t retire from UFC just yet.
