Jon Jones is one of the most popular fighters in the history of the UFC. For the past couple of months, Jones had been gunning for Francis Ngannou’s UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Jones had revealed in the past that he felt undervalued and simply wanted to be paid better. Unfortunately for Jones, it was previously stated that he will not be facing Ngannou anytime soon as Ngannou will be facing Derrick Lewis this Summer.
While speaking to TMZ Sports, UFC President Dana White talked about Jon Jones wanting to face Francis Ngannou in a fight. White stated that he has completely moved on from Jon Jones in general as the UFC simply can’t wait for Jones to fight on his own terms. It’s a business in the end and White also added that Derrick Lewis deserves to face Francis Ngannou.
“Yeah, I’ve absolutely moved on. Listen, I put on fights every Saturday. We have a window where we try to build some fights and make some things happen. If the fights don’t happen within that window, we move on, and realistically, I mean I’ve been saying it since the beginning, Derrick Lewis is the guy who should be getting the title shots. He beat Francis Ngannou. He’s next in line, he’s coming off of great performances and that’s a wrap. We’re moving on.”
Dana White was then asked about Jon Jones future in the UFC. White stated that Jones retiring from MMA while still being at the top of his game is a viable option as well.
That’s up to Jon. He could absolutely fight again at 205 lbs. He said he wouldn’t fight [Stipe Miocic] and now Derrick and Francis are fighting so we’ll see how that fight plays out.
There’s nothing wrong with going out on top either — Jon Jones is undefeated, he’s never been beat.
For those people that don’t know, you see that 1 loss on his record, he didn’t lose that fight he won that fight in dominant fashion like most of his fights. It was a time when the Nevada Athletic Commission was at its weakest and there was a referee that shouldn’t have been in there and he stole that fight from Jon Jones. So, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for him to go out on top.”
As Dana White mentioned, Jon Jones had previously turned down the possibility of fighting Stipe Miocic. Presently it is not known what is next in store for Jon Jones. His fans certainly hope Jon Jones doesn’t retire from UFC just yet.
