Pop sensation Britney Spears remains one of the most talked-about celebrities in Hollywood right now, for better or for worse. Now it seems Spears was close to being cast in the lead role of The Notebook, opposite Ryan Gosling.
While speaking to Daily Mail‘, casting director Matthew Barry revealed that Britney Spears was almost cast as Allie Hamilton, the main character opposite Ryan Gosling.
In the end, the role went to Rachel McAdams as she “aced the audition” despite being a relatively unknown actress at the time. Barry even shared a photo of Spears and Gosling smiling at the screen at their screen test more than 15 years ago.
Spears was not the only person who was going to play alongside Ryan Gosling as Underworld star Kate Beckinsale was also chosen for the role, but “there wasn’t chemistry.”
It was also said that they “considered” Hayden Christensen, who played the role of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars films, for The Notebook, but ultimately decided against it.
“We went to the opening of whatever Star Wars episode he was in, but we left after 20 minutes.”
We certainly wonder how different the film would have been had Britney Spears been picked to play the role of Allie Hamilton instead of Rachel McAdams. Regardless, the film remains one of the most beloved in the romance genre and that isn’t changing.
