Jon Jones is one of the most popular fighters in the history of the UFC. For the past couple of months, Jones had been gunning for Francis Ngannou’s UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Jones had revealed in the past that he felt undervalued and simply wanted to be paid better. Unfortunately for Jones, it was previously stated that he will not be facing Ngannou anytime soon as Ngannou will be facing Derrick Lewis this Summer.
Dana White also recently stated that he is moving on from Jon Jones’ chapter and that is not changing. Dana White is also hopeful that Jones adding boxing promoter Richard Schaefer to the mix will result in him fighting in UFC again.
While speaking to Yahoo’s Kevin Iole, UFC president Dana White stated that he isn’t sure if Jon Jones even wants to fight anymore. White was also asked why he worked so hard to make sure the failed Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko superfight could have taken place in 2002 but didn’t work as hard in the case of Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou.
White would then compare Jones to Brock Lesnar, stating that Jones simply lacks the drive and competitive fire that Lesnar had.
“You know, Jon Jones is a different animal. Listen, if I came to a deal with Brock Lesnar and Fedor [Emelianenko], at the time both these guys wanted to fight each other, they wanted to go out and compete…, that’s not Jon.
Jon is just, you know, Jon is one of those guys who could have had blown this sport open. He could have had a Nike deal where he had shoes with Nike for the next 25, 30 years after he retired, and stuff like that.”
Jon Jones also made it clear that he is fine waiting another year until Jones gets to compete in the Octagon again. We will have to see who Jones’ opponent will be whenever he fights again.
