Michael Jordan is undoubtedly one of the most popular and iconic basketball players to have ever stepped foot inside a basketball court. His Air Jordan 1 sneaker line remains one of most sought after shoes in the world right now.
According to TMZ Sports, a one-of-a-kind pair of the NBA legend’s Air Jordan 1’s made their way to the market and they are from before the time the Air Jordan 1s started production as the pair are his sample sneakers.
The sample sneakers have been verified with the code “850204-TYPS” on the tongue which means these 1’s were made between February and April in 1985, with TYPS meaning “Tong Yang Player Sample”.
Another very interesting form of authentication for the sneakers is certainly the mismatched sizes, with it being 13 for the left foot and 13 1/2 for the right. Jordan would always wear a bigger size on his right foot. The sample sneakers were also autographed by Jordan, who was a rookie at that time.
The shoe was acquired by a gas company executive who expressed his love for Jordan in a random meeting with a high-up sports executive. A few weeks later he would receive the samples in the mail.
The sneakers are being auctioned by RR Auctions and the bidding process is set to end on June 16th. The current bid is $95,420 but the shoes are expected to sell for a whopping $250,000. We will have to see which lucky collector will take home these one-of-a-kind sneakers and important piece of history.
