Nicki Minaj is undoubtedly one of the most popular female rappers in the Hip-Hop world. Unfortunately for Minaj, she suffered a personal tragedy earlier in the year when her father, Robert Maraj, lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident.
As a result of his sudden demise, her mother Carol Maraj filed a $150 million lawsuit against the man responsible for taking the life of Minaj’s father. The rapper would open up about her father’s tragic passing last month as well.
Robert Maraj was walking in Mineola, NY, on Feb. 12 when he was hit by a white 1992 Volvo station wagon. The accused driver, Charles Polevich, exited his vehicle, asked Maraj if he was fine and then fled the scene without calling 911 as alleged by prosecutors. Polevich would eventually surrender himself to the police.
According to a report by Radar, the 70-year-old attempted to dismiss the lawsuit. In his defence, Polevich’s lawyer stated that Minaj’s father was “reckless, careless and negligent in crossing the street.” He further claimed that his client had to make a “sudden and unexpected circumstance, not of his own making” because he was in the face of an emergency.
Polevich pleaded not guilty and was then released from prison after fulfilling a $250,000 bond. His driver’s license has been suspended and he’s prohibited from leaving the state. Polevich is scheduled to appear in court in August. We will keep you updated on this ongoing case.
