2016’s Suicide Squad film was written and directed by David Ayer. Despite being a Box Office success, grossing over $740 million at the worldwide box office. the film was panned by both fans and critics.
This ultimately led to James Gunn taking charge of The Suicide Squad which is said to be a ”soft reboot” of the 2016 film. The film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker and more.
James Gunn had previously revealed that the upcoming film could have multiple post-credits scenes. On top of that, he teased that a new trailer would be dropping this month. It seems that is exactly what happened.
The highly anticipated trailer for The Suicide Squad dropped as a YouTube advertisement and it certainly gave fans a very good idea of what is to come in the upcoming film. The new footage starts by introducing Idris Elba’s character Bloodsport, who evidently put “Superman in the ICU with a kryptonite bullet.” Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller explains why she needs another team of villains.
Things take a more serious turn as Waller can be heard explaining that their mission is to “destroy every trace of something known only as Project Starfish,” likely referring to the movie’s villain, Starro. The rest of the trailer includes high octation and well-coordinated action sequences.
Many fans are also wondering whether the film will redeem itself after the abysmal prequel movie. We will have to see how the film turns out to be as it is set to release on August 6th, 2021.
