John Cena is undoubtedly one of the best Superstars to have ever stepped foot inside a WWE ring. He is a 16-time World Champion and was the face of the company for well over a decade. He hasn’t appeared in WWE in well over a year due to his busy schedule in Hollywood.
McIntyre is known for competing in high profile matches and had previously mentioned his desire to face off against John Cena at WrestleMania 39. In fact, he doubled down on his interest in facing Cena.
While speaking with On Demand Entertainment, John Cena talked about Drew McIntyre wanting a match against him. Cena stated that neither he nor McIntyre has the power to set up matches.
John Cena added that he never requested a match and only did what he was told and suggested Drew McIntyre to do the same.
“Well, I always appreciate being involved in a conversation of saying that things are important because that means people haven’t forgotten what you’ve put forth as an effort. But man, what a way to set yourself up for disappointment. In no way, shape, or form is Drew in a position to make matches or make things happen, and I’m not either. Neither of us have that power. That’s beyond our capacity.
“I certainly am grateful for being mentioned, which is awesome. But I’ve never approached anything like, ‘I’d like to work with this person. I wanna have a match with this person,’ because I don’t make those choices. They [WWE] say, ‘Hey, I’d like you to do this.’ ‘Alright, it’s time to go to work.’ And that’s really allowed me to enjoy every step of the way. I think if we build expectations in our head, like I hate to say this to Drew, but if that never happens, how is he supposed to feel about that?”
We certainly wonder whether Drew McIntyre and John Cena will face off against each other one day inside a WWE ring, especially now that Cena doesn’t seem interested in it. However, fans would definitely love to see it happen.
