This has to be one of the most bizarre legal issues of all time. Pop star Dua Lipa has been sued for posting her own picture on Instagram, but the twist is that it was taken by a paparazzi.
Dua Lipa took to Instagram to post a photo of herself that was taken at the airport, where she had been wearing an unusually large hat. She captioned the photo with, “I’ll be living under big fluffy hats until further notice,” as reported by BBC.
Lipa is sued by Integral Images, who claim that Dua Lipa used content that was credited to them for her own gains, as they argued according to the court documents that her Instagram account is a tool for financial gains. The docs say that the Instagram account is “monetized in that it contains content designed to accumulate followers who are directed to, via link and/or advertisement, consume and purchase [her] content.”
Integral Images are suing Lipa for $150,000 in damages, and they seek a jury trial against the popstar. Integral Images also stated that they want the popstar to stop with other instances of copyright infringement against the company.
Such lawsuits, as ludicrous as it sounds, are quite common, and many big celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Liam Hemsworth, Khloé Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Jennifer Lopez have been sued by such companies and individuals.
