Khabib Nurmagomedov will always be regarded as one of the best UFC fighters to have competed in the MMA world. Khabib ended his career after his match against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in 2020.
His opinion certainly carries a lot of weight and that is not changing anytime soon. In the main event of UFC 264, Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor competed against each other in their trilogy fight, with many fans wondering who would win in the end.
When all was said and done Conor McGregor fractured his ankle at the end of the first round and Dustin Poirier was declared the winner via TKO after the fight ended due to doctor’s stoppage.
McGregor already underwent a 3.5 hour-long surgery and is likely to place a rod into his leg along with plates and screws to stabilize the broken bones.
While speaking to ESPN, Khabib talked about Conor McGregor’s condition after his devastating loss and injury at UFC 264. Khabib stated that McGregor will never be a top star in UFC ever again and is finished, but he will remain good for promotion.
“Without broken legs, yes, [he could be the same]. But with broken legs, he’s never going to kick the same. With him, no, I don’t believe [he’ll return to the top]. Conor have good age [32], but what happened with his mind, legs — this guy is finished, but he’s good for promotion.”
Conor McGregor will be out of action until January of next year and even if he does make a full recovery, McGregor will truly never be the same again and it is likely Khabib’s words will become true.
