Nivea had a great career in music, but after she released hits such as “Don’t Mess with My Man” and “Laundromat,” it came to a grinding halt. Many of her fans were puzzled by her sudden disappearance from the industry.
The former star herself recently showed up in Kandi Burruss’s show On That Note to address the circumstances of her disappearance. She revealed that Lil Wayne had told her to quit her career and live with him, but then he moved Toya Johnson into the house, and ended up marrying her later.
I’m just sitting there, like, being a housewife… and you know, Reginae [Carter] was very young. All of a sudden—this is kind of funny—he was like, ‘I ain’t never stay in an apartment before. Let’s get an apartment.’ So we move out the house and get an apartment but I never realized he did that to move Toya [Johnson] back in the house.
She continues talking about how after her singles had dropped back in 2002, Wayne had reached out to her label and requested a collaboration with her, to which he later confessed that he only did so in order to secure her contact number.
Despite both Wayne and Nivea going their separate ways, with Toya being with Wayne and Nivea marrying The-Dream, both her and Toya Johnson maintain a very good relationship.
