Dexter starring Michael C. Hall became an instant hit with fans since its debut in 2006. Running for 8 seasons, it showed Hall’s character, Dexter, who was a deeply damaged serial killer that murdered other serial killers. The ending to season 8 left many fans disappointed and they lost hope for a new season.
It was then announced that season 9 will be airing this Fall and it will take place directly after the events of season 8. Original showrunner Clyde Phillips will be involved in the revival. Phillips left the show after Season 4, many of whom considered that the starting point for the show’s decline in quality.
Many fans have also been wondering if any of the original cast will be reprising their roles for the upcoming season. Dexter actor James Remar recently stated that the original cast won’t be returning for the next season. However, that was contradicted by Jamie Chung, who stated that the cast from the original seasons will be making a return.
It was also previously reported that John Lithgow will be making his return to the series as the Trinity Killer. While speaking to Deadline, John Lithgow talked about his role in the Dexter revival, noting that it will be a flashback.
As all Dexter fans know, we saw the end of the Trinity Killer, so that by definition means it’s a flashback. It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang—including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and Clyde Phillips.
We will have to see how effective his role will be, as the character was killed off by Dexter himself at the end of season 4. With the show expected to air in the Fall of this year, we will have to wait and see whether it will right the wrongs of season 8 or not.
