After much wait, Space Jam: A New Legacy has been released. While it’s likely to make a lot of money, unfortunately, the reception for the movie has not been warm at all, as the movie has received a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite that, a third part of the movie is in talks too.
Even though Space Jam isn’t considered one of the best comedies of all time, it stands the test of time really well, and it stands as an ambitious crossover attempt. According to TMZ, Joe Pytka took to expressing his disappointment of the film.
Pytka couldn’t even finish the film in one sitting. He took a total of 5 viewings in order to finish the movie, which is only 2 hours long. However, his issue isn’t exactly with the formula the movie went with.
Joe expressed that while Space Jam casted Michael Jordan, who was the greatest basketball player at the time, he was also a huge celebrity with fame all over the world. He stated, however, that “The truth is that LeBron ain’t Michael.“
Pytka’s criticism of the movie speaks volumes, as he is not only the original film’s director, but also the man behind directing many prominent music videos and advertisements from the 80’s and 90’s, the impact of which still stands unshaken in the world.
