Pop sensation Britney Spears is certainly a controversial figure in the music world, going back to her 2007 meltdown and her father then moving to form a conservatorship around Spears’ estate.
Britney Spears finally spoke out against her father’s conservatorship on June 23rd addressing a Los Angeles Superior Court judge via video. For a long time, Britney Spears has been working hard to get her father out of her life. Spears compared her father to a “sex trafficker” and said that “he loved” having control over her.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Britney Spears’ new lawyer Matthew Rosengart petitioned the court to appoint a successor to the conservatorship of her estate, calling her father’s broad control of her career and fortune “traumatizing, insane and depressing” in new legal documents filed on July 25th.
He proposed that James Spears be replaced with CPA Jason Rubin as conservator of the pop star’s estate, which documents say equates to $2.7 million in cash and more than $57 million in assets.
“Any father who genuinely loves his daughter and has her best interests at heart should willingly step aside in favor of the highly respected professional fiduciary nominated here.”
We will have to wait and see what happens in the ongoing conservatorship case and hope Britney Spears will finally be free from her father’s clutches.
