2016’s Suicide Squad film was written and directed by David Ayer. Despite being a Box Office success, grossing over $740 million at the worldwide box office. the film was panned by both fans and critics. The Suicide Squad, the franchise’s 2021 soft reboot has received a much different critical reception with a 93% fresh ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.
This ultimately led to James Gunn taking charge of The Suicide Squad which was said to be a ”soft reboot” of the 2016 film. The film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker and more.
John Cena is also set to star in a spinoff based on his Peacemaker character. Many fans were highly impressed with Cena’s portrayal of the Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. It was previously revealed that the show will be taking place both in the past and present.
While speaking to ET, James Gunn talked about the Peacemaker spinoff, where he claimed that the TV series will have more action than any other superhero show ever.
“As you’ll see, Peacemaker is a very, very different show from anything that’s ever been done in the superhero realm. It is about a guy, first and foremost, and very much secondarily a superhero. But it’s still a big science fiction movie with tons and tons more action than any superhero show ever. It’s just totally its own thing.”
The Peacemaker spinoff series will be releasing in January of next year and will be 8 episodes in length. We will have to wait and see just how good the spinoff will turn out to be.
