Britney Spears made plenty of headlines over her restrictive conservatorship, and now her father has decided to step down. This controversy caused a rift in the Spears family as Brit and sister Jamie Lynn Spears have thrown barbs at each other. No Jamie Spears’ attorney filed legal documentation that removed him from his daughter’s conservatorship today.
According to TMZ, Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, singed away his rights to monitor her conservatorship. He obviously saw the #FreeBirtney cries and has agreed to step down. Spears’ attorney filed legal documentation that lowers a pretty big bombshell on this ongoing case.
“There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate … and it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests.”
“Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests. So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”
“Regardless of his formal title, Mr. Spears will always be Ms. Spears’ father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests.”
The document goes on to throw Jamie Lynn Spears under the buss a bit. She claimed not to have much to do with this conservatorship, but their father is calling cap on that. She had a lot of involvement with the conservatorship over the past 13 years and it is alleged that her credibility is undermined because Britney Spears refused to even see her when she was at a mental health facility in 2019.
Britney Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, provided a statement on this situation, and he wasn’t impressed. He reportedly said, “We are pleased but not necessarily surprised that Mr. Spears and his lawyer finally recognize that he must be removed. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others.”
Jamie Spears made a lot of money managing Britney’s funds, and they will investigate that. It seems this hurdle is over, but Britney isn’t quite free just yet.
