Oscar De La Hoya is most certainly one of the most established professional boxers in the history of the sport and was set to make his return to the sport against Vitor Belfort on September 11th. Dana White really wanted to see La Hoya get destroyed by Belfort.
His boxing match against Vitor Belfort was likely one of many matches as Oscar De La Hoya was determined to make a proper comeback.
Many fans were excited about the boxing match as it was going to be La Hoya’s first since retiring in 2008. However, it seems the match will no longer be taking place.
Oscar De La Hoya took to his Instagram and uploaded a video of himself in a hospital bed, as he revealed that he contracted COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated.
Wanted you to hear directly from me that despite being fully vaccinated, I have contracted Covid and am not going to be able to fight next weekend. Preparing for this comeback has been everything to me over the last months, and I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support. I am currently in the hospital getting treatment and am confident I will be back in the ring before the year is up. God bless everyone and stay safe.
We will have to wait and see when the match between the two will be taking place now that La Hoya is still recovering from COVID-19.
