Vitor Belfort was set to take on Oscar De La Hoya on September 11 in a boxing match for Triller. However, La Hoya tested positive for COVID-19 and was pulled from the match. Due to this boxing legend Evander Holyfield took his place and faced Belfort instead.
The two duked it out in the main event of the show and right from the first bell Vitor Belfort was relentless as he landed a flurry of punches on the old legend before Holyfield fell to the canvas.
After beating the 10 count, the referee wisely stopped the fight, saving Holyfield from further punishment. Thus, Belfort won the boxing match in dominant fashion.
While speaking after the conclusion of the fight, Belfort talked about how it felt to defeat Evander Holyfield. He called Hollyfield the greatest heavyweight of all time and felt it was an honor to fight him.
“You only are judged by the people you are competing against. Sometimes you have a beautiful record but you didn’t compete with the greatest. So for me to be able to compete with Holyfield and watching him…I remember I was the youngest champion, fighting two guys on the same night, Holyfield was fighting for $30 million against Mike Tyson. And we used to fight, you have to win $50,000 if you beat two guys, no weight-division, there was no organization back in the day. So it’s a privilege. You know boxing has been my martial arts man, top martial arts. I love it the most. Being able to transition and being able to come here and fighting the greatest heavyweight of all times was a phenomenal opportunity for me.”
We will have to wait and see if Vitor Belfort will face off against Oscar De La Hoya as the match couldn’t happen before.
