Kanye West & Drake have been competing with each other in many ways. Kanye West even leaked the address of Drake’s house. Drake, on the other hand, leaked Kanye West’s track with Andre 3000. Drake has also supported artists who have been calling Kanye out for not including their work on DONDA.
DONDA’s release seemed rather odd, given that it was dropped without any real announcement. Todd Rundgren, who has made a lot of compositions for the album, revealed that there is a good reason for that.
Rundgren revealed to Ultimate Classic Rock that Kanye West hastened to release DONDA out of fear. He also said that a lot of music on DONDA sounds like it’s “raw, unprocessed stuff.”
I realized why they hurriedly wrapped the whole thing up and put out what is obviously really raw, unprocessed stuff. It’s because Drake was running the whole process. He was too afraid that Drake would one-up him, so he hurried up and released the album the weekend before Drake could get his out. And in the end, Drake ate his lunch anyway.
Kanye West’s DONDA had its triumphant moments, but Drake’s Certified Lover Boy ended up dethroning it from the Billboard Top 200 chart. Certified Lover Boy also made history by occupying all the Top 10 Rolling Stone chart positions with its songs.
