Rapper Nicki Minaj is no stranger to controversy. Most recently, she made headlines when she announced her decision to not attend the Met Gala this year. The event required all attendees to be vaccinated, which happened to be something that Minaj is skeptical about.
In a tweet, she declared that if she gets vaccinated “it won’t [be] for the Met.” However she also conceded that she is still researching vaccines, so she isn’t entirely opposed to them. Twitter, however, got all fired up when she followed her initial tweets with an anecdote about her cousin.
My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied.
Minaj has spent most of Monday night defending her statements against a volley of criticism. She said that it isn’t fair that she is being attacked over one tweet, when she has previously made tweets urging people to get vaccinated and wear masks. Minaj has also criticized news outlets for ignoring the fact that she didn’t want to travel out of fear of passing COVID to her young son.
Nicki Minaj’s skepticism also makes sense, as she revealed recently that she wants more children. She’s soon to return to the world of music, and asked many artists on Twitter to collaborate with her. She also made headlines recently after she hung out with Rihanna, signifying an end to their beef.
