Fat Joe, who recently sparked controversy with his inflammatory lyrics in a Verzuz battle, is making headlines yet again. This time the rapper has started a debate by comparing his fellow rapper Ja Rule to Canadian rapper Drake.
Fat Joe and Ja Rule had both gone live on Instagram on Wednesday to discuss their Verzuz battle from the previous night, when Joe began to compliment Ja Rule by comparing him to Drake.
No disrespect to your Hip Hop roots, you’re a pop star. I always tell everybody you was the Drake before Drake. You had hit after hit after hit after hit.
Ja Rule did accept the compliment in the spirit of jest, but he also admitted that it was high praise since Drake is considered one of the greatest of all time. Fat Joe agreed, but continued to defend his comparison.
He’s the GOAT, we not going there, but what I’m saying is for the youth who’s tuned in, they don’t realize that this guy Ja Rule had a run like Drake for years. Just hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit.
While Fat Joe’s comparison is a bold one, it is hard to dismiss it entirely, since Ja Rule did have a remarkable run in the early 2000s, selling more than 30 million records worldwide.
