The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, the 19th of September. However, a controversy surrounding the award show has sparked up online.
While several actors of color were nominated for awards this time around, none of them ended up winning any awards. This has led to the hashtag #EmmySoWhite trending on Twitter.
American rapper 50 Cent was amongst those expressed displeasure at this turn of events. The rapper shared his thoughts in an Instagram post that has now been deleted.
Listen the Emmys still has a separate bathroom for colored folks,” 50 Cent wrote. “I’m gonna put the NAACP awards on the air at the same time and fuck up their numbers. No they really should be afraid of me I’m different.
The rapper also expressed similar feelings the previous two years as well. In 2019, 50 Cent called out the Emmys for failing to recognize his series “Power.” In 2020, he put out the following statement:
Ok here it is Emmy’s. My Black ass for your consideration to kiss. Fuck your organization I only care about NAACP awards.
