Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood. While he prepares for the release of his upcoming Netflix thriller The Guilty, he has been struggling against criticism from the entire industry about his hot takes on how often should one bathe themselves.
Gyllenhaal was one of the first ones to start this debate. He went on an interview with Vanity Fair and said that it’s not necessary for everyone to bath every single day. While he claims that his tone was quickly misinterpreted, everyone had a field day with it.
More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times. I do believe, because Elvis Costello is wonderful, that good manners and bad breath get you nowhere. So I do that. But I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.
The Spiderman: Far From Home actor took to clearing out the air about his comments at the screening of The Guilty. He revealed to Buzzfeed that he was simply being “sarcastic & ironic.”
I don’t know what it was. I answered a question where I was being sarcastic and ironic, and it’s followed me around. Unfortunately, I showered before I came here.
Many celebrities have come forward since then to support and protest against not bathing every day. Both The Rock & Cardi B went vehemently against it, and Jason Momoa shared a very hilarious take on the whole situation.
