JJ Redick is regarded as one of the best three point scorers of all times. He was selected 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA draft.

Apart from the Orlando Magic, he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, then four seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2017, he signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 2019, Redick signed a two-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. However, it seems Redick’s 15-year-long career as a basketball player has now come to an end.

Redick announced his retirement on various social media platforms including Instagram where he thanked everyone for supporting him through the years.

First team. Last team. So GRATEFUL for everything in between. Today, I am officially retiring from the game of basketball. Thank you to EVERYONE who was a part of my journey and career ❤️. I started playing basketball 30 years ago in my backyard on an uneven patch of dirt, gravel, and grass. It was on that court that my dreams began to form. Reality has far surpassed my dreams!! So thankful for 15 years in the NBA and all the amazing relationships and memories along the way.

He also provided further explanation about the timing of his decision in an episode on his podcast, The Old Man and the Three. Ultimately it came down to him wanting to focus on his life as a father more than anything.

JJ Redick’s contribution to the world of professional basketball will never be forgotten and we certainly hope he enjoys his life after retirement.
