Los Angeles Lakers’ Carmelo Anthony is certainly one of the best basketball players in recent memory as he was named an NBA All-Star ten times and an All-NBA Team member six times.
Anthony is currently busy promoting his memoir, Where Tomorrows Aren’t Promised: A Memoir of Survival and Hope. Being a veteran in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony is well aware of all the pressures and trials that come with being an athlete.
While speaking to People, Carmelo Anthony talked about his career in the NBA and also about mental health in the industry. Anthony stated that athletes are naturally depressed due to their high-pressure lifestyle.
‘I think athletes, like, we’re naturally depressed being an athlete. mean, what we have to go through on a day-to-day basis, dealing with media, competing at the highest level.
We spend more time with our teammates than we do with our family during the year, so you miss holidays and so on and so forth. So it’s a lot of things that, you know, the average person [doesn’t] really understand that an athlete has to go through.” Anthony added, “It wasn’t until I actually started writing the book and going through that process where I was able to kind of get the real, true meaning of, kind of, who I am and putting everything into perspective.”
The newly signed Los Angeles Laker star will continue to be an advocate for mental health and that is certainly a good cause as mental health should be taken seriously in all fields of life.
