R. Kelly became a controversial name in the world of Hip-Hop for a reason. He is sitting in prison on a separate federal indictment that includes child pornography, sexual exploitation of children and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Government. He has been labelled as a predator and even tried to have herpes-related charges dropped against him.
Recently the rapper’s first male accuser came forward with his experience with R. Kelly. The rapper was also accused of forcing his victims to stay in a ‘twilight zone’ of control.
According to Fox News, the rapper told a judge on Wednesday that he was not going to take the witness stand at his sex trafficking trial, due to which he will be avoiding a cross-examination.
U.S. District Judge Ann Connelly asked R. Kelly, “You don’t want to testify, correct?” To which the rapper simply responded, “Yes, ma’am.” Lawyers had previously stated that the rapper was unlikely to testify on his behalf.
The short defense case has relied on a few of Kelly’s former employees and other associates who agreed to take the stand to try to discredit the allegations meted against him.
