CEO of Tesla Motors and business tycoon Elon Musk certainly needs no introduction. A few months ago, NASA awarded Elon Musk’s SpaceX a lucrative contract to get astronauts to the moon by 2024. As reported earlier, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin had a problem with this.
According to CNBC, Tesla was in hot water after allegations of racism surfaced. Now it seems a former employee will receive a ludicrous amount of money from the company.
Owen Diaz was a contract worker for Tesla and was hired back in 2015. Diaz claimed that he put up with being called various racial slurs and fought through a hostile work environment.
During a jury trial, Diaz was said to have testified that he, along with other Black Tesla employees, regularly faced discriminatory remarks from their colleagues, were told to “go back to Africa,” and would often find racist language graffitied in the company restrooms.
It was said that Diaz got “$130 million in punitive damages and $6.9 million for emotional distress… A pending class-action lawsuit in Alameda County in California — Vaughn v. Tesla Inc. — also alleges that Tesla is rife with racist discrimination and harassment.”
Racism should always be looked down upon and we are glad to see Diaz being awarded for all he had been through.
