George Clooney remains one of the iconic and influential actors in all of Hollywood. He has starred in several memorable films throughout his career, but that doesn’t mean Clooney hasn’t starred in his fair share of duds.
This includes the 1997 film Batman & Robin, where he starred as the Caped Crusader. The ensemble cast included Chris O’Donnell as Robin, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl.
The film was such a colossal failure that it ensured no Batman film would be made until 2005’s Batman Begins. In fact, it left a stain on George Clooney’s acting career as well.
While speaking to Variety, George Clooney was asked if he may appear in The Flash alongside Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck. Clooney made it clear he won’t after his performance in Batman & Robin. He also revealed that he won’t ever have his wife or children watch the film.
They didn’t ask me. When you destroy a franchise the way I did, usually they look the other way when ‘The Flash’ comes by. Clooney’s wife, Amal, said, “He won’t let me watch it,” to which Clooney responded that he had good reason for it. “There are certain films I just go, ‘I want my wife to have some respect for me.'”
Since then George Clooney has acted in several excellent films and fixed his reputation as an actor, but his portrayal as Batman will forever haunt him from the looks of it.
